PRIVATE STUDIO

I've always been curious about the voice.  How it works: why it isn't the same every day, how to affect lasting change, how to make sense of something complicated - all these things pique my interest. They led me to discover a passion for helping people find their own voices in the same way that my teachers have helped me find mine - both as a professional singer and as a human. Through the voice, we can discover new and wonderful windows into our collective humanity.

I am available for lessons to students of all abilities and levels in Voice, Songwriting, Piano, and Music Theory.  My goal as a teacher is to help students find their individual voices and skills and to help them be curious in their discovery of how they will use their curiosity in the world.

Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and desires of each person.

I utilize many different sources of information to inform my voice teaching including motor learning principles, exercise physiology and vocal pedagogy. I am certified in Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method and utilize its concepts as the foundation for much of what I teach. SVW™ is a body-based method of vocal training, which draws from many disciplines. It is based upon voice science and medicine as well as traditional classical vocal training, complementary modalities such as yoga, movement, dance, acting, and speech training, and various bodywork approaches. Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method is meant to unselfconsciously draw the mind of the singer into the physical process of making sound.

I love all genres and styles of music, however I specialize in popular and contemporary music styles including Singer-Songwriter, Jazz, Pop (all kinds), Folk, Country, R & B, Soul, and Rock.

Sessions are scheduled weekly or bi-weekly.  Less frequent lessons will be accommodated, however preference will be given to those students on a regular repeating schedule.

TESTIMONIALS

I literally came out of this class feeling less afraid of songwriting and a bit more hopeful about the whole process. Working on songwriting exercises was the coolest thing ever and ended up being fun instead of nerve wrecking, which I truly did not expect - Maya

The vocal cords are not just a part of the body.  Just as vocal lessons with Kat are not just singing lessons.  Working with Kat made me aware of the anatomy of my instrument as well as provided me with the tools to utilize, strengthen, and maintain my voice.  Only a professor so deeply passionate about their craft would dedicate themselves to study the art of vocalization.  I am just lucky enough that Kat could share her passion with me. - Jared

I loved the way Kat continued to demand more from me. This is something that I am used to seeing in the classical groups I play with but had never really seen from a jazz coach. She made me think about jazz and improvisation in ways I never had previously. - Rafael

Kat's way of teaching is life changing and affected me not only in my music, but in my life. Most importantly she taught me the meaning and importance of confidence and belief in yourself. Kat showed me how to become comfortable and in love with my voice and talent. - Sydney

Beyond technique, a lesson with Kat is one in confidence, self-respect, and the true emotion behind music that makes us feel. Kat doesn't teach singing, she teaches performing. I am more comfortable with my vocal and stage presence now then I ever have been- and being able to breath correctly and sing with ease doesn't hurt either. - Alex
